Light a Candle
Our sister Sheri, believed in helping others and was passionate about life and to live each day to its fullest doing the things that she loved. Sheri had strong convictions; and, though life threw her some curve balls, she always seemed well up to the task of meeting those challenges.
Just as quick as Sheri was to stand-up for herself, she would also stand up for her family and friends. I’m sure that I wasn’t the only one who was not surprised by her devotion and doting when she became a mother. She surrounded Eddie and Dana with her love and her full attention. Sheri loved animals and enjoyed knitting, sewing, arts and crafts, spinning yarn; and, so much more.
And so, It came as that much more of a shock when we learned of her illness. Always the fighter.... always strong and outspoken.... we had brief moments of confidence that she would soundly defeat the cancer that threatened her. We knew that she had so much more to give.... so much more to teach, and so much more to share with her sons, her husband, our family.... and her friends.... that it just had to come out OK.
Somehow it didn’t come out ok. Still, as I write today, reaching out at the many lives she touched and remembering all the causes she championed and contributed to; the lives that she's touched; the friends that she's made, I know that she has achieved what she set out to. Anything is possible. She proved that to us all.
She lit up a room with her laughter and sense of humor. Her smile was infectious. She made you want to be a better person. She made you want to be a stronger person. She was put on this earth to inspire others and to offer love and compassion to those in need.... She is and will always be my hero. We will never know the why....why this happened? Why her at this young age? Since I found out that Sheri had cancer, I wanted to fix it; I wanted to fix her.
What we do know is that every single person that knew Sheri was blessed to have come across such an amazing woman. Sheri was beautiful in mind and spirit. We were lucky to have had the opportunity to be a part of her life and see her handle her illness with Grace and Dignity till the very end.
Our hope is that we remember she lives on in our heart, our thoughts and our memories. Most importantly, Sheri will live on through her children. She loved and adored them so much and we believe she continues to from the heavens above.
Sheri will always be remembered for her warmth and generosity, her commitment to humanity, her brilliance and unflagging optimism, and her great big heart. She set an example of courage and compassion that inspired everyone who knew her. Heaven only knows what’s in store for you next! You were a trooper!
We will miss our sister more than words can say.
